Road Structure Design

A road structure design, or pavement design, is required by the City of Calgary when constructing a road that will be used by the general public. Our easy-to-follow design reports include all of the City of Calgary’s required information, including a review of subgrade drainage and water table considerations.

To perform a flexible pavement design, we require information about the subgrade soil conditions as well as the proposed traffic type and volume.

Subgrade conditions are assessed using a California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test on the subgrade soil and traffic information is either provided within a Traffic Impact Assessment for the development, or by using available City of Calgary traffic data.

If requested, we can collect samples from the proposed road location’s subgrade and perform CBR testing. Will we require any available traffic studies or will discuss with you to choose the most relevant traffic data to use in our design.

We also have access to modern software that can help you economize your road construction through the use of geogrid and geotextiles that can reduce the required gravel and asphalt thicknesses.

If you need a flexible pavement design, feel free to give us a call or contact us. We would be happy to discuss your project and how we can help.
